A rare early 18th Century Chinese porcelain jar finely painted with wucai / famille verte enamels depicting a lady and two boys in a garden setting. This item was made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province southern China, during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662 - 1722). Condition: excellent - there is a little surface degradation to some of the over glaze enamels but no losses; no damages and no restoration. A fine and very rare early 18th Century bowl decorated in Ming style depicting the 'Three Friends of Winter' - Bamboo, Pine and Prunus Blossom. The base carries the encircled six character mark of the Yongzheng Emperor and this bowl was made during his reign (1723-1735). For a similar bowl please see Christies, King Street - sale no. 5977, lot 116 (15 June 1998). Provenance - purchased from Woolley and Wallis (Salisbury) in 2003. Condition - there is a small rim chip and a white filled rim chip with associated hairline. A very rare, heavy and exceptionally finely enamelled ten-sided porcelain double teapot made in China (possibly *Baba-Nonya" for the "Straits" Chinese market) in the 19th Century . This shape occurs in Yixing wares but it is very unusual to find porcelain in this form. Condition - one cover is chipped and has been broken in half and re-glued; there are chips to the spout and the top of the handle; there is a crack to the top join of the handle but none at the bottom. A late 19th or early 20th Century porcelain snuff bottle, painted in shades of underglaze blue and pale olive green, depicting a lady and three boys in an interior or enclosed garden setting. The green hardstone stopper is probably jade and the spatula is finely carved ivory. Condition: there are many small burst production glaze bubbles: no chips or cracks and there has been no restoration. 7.5cm ( 3 inches) high (without stopper).

A very finely painted soft-paste porcelain, 17th Century "Transitional" style, garlic necked vase depicting a scene from the historical epic novel "San Guo Zhi Yan Yi" (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) attributed to the 14th Century novelist Luo Guanzhong. The courageous General Zhao Zilong is shown saving Ah Dou, the baby son of Liu Bei, during the war against the wicked General Cao Cao in which the child's mother died - he rescues the child and places him between his chest and armoured breast plate and rides away. This item was possibly made in Zhangzhou, Fujian province, southern China, during either the mid 17th Century or later, in the 19th Century. A rare and unusual heavy porcelain bitong (brushpot) moulded in the form of a bamboo section with four applied birds in flight and covered with a thick blueish green glaze suffused with tiny bubbles. The base and interior are unglazed. This item was made in China in the 17th or 18th Century, probably during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722). Condition - there is an inside the rim chip, in glaze discoloration and under glaze firing cracks. 9.4cm (3.7inches) high; 10.6cm (4.3inches) high. A thickly potted high footed porcelain dish decorated with 'famille rose' enamels depicting three Manchurian Cranes in flight above waves and framed with a simplified 'key fret' border. Inside the foot, on the base, is the Minyao six character iron red seal mark of the Tongzhi emperor. This item was made in China during either the Tongzhi (1862-1874) reign or a little later during the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). Condition: good - there is wear to the enamels and there are small chips and frits to the rim; there are no cracks and there has been no restoration. 4.8cm (1.9 inches) high; 16.5cm (6.5 inches) across.

A small pair of finely potted U-shaped Chinese porcelain wine cups painted to the exterior in underglaze blue with stylized scrolls of flowering lotus above a band of Ruyi heads over a narrow foot. Above the lotus flower heads are eight Tibetan style Buddhist Lanca (Lantsa) characters. On each base of each, painted in under glaze blue within a double square, is the six character reign mark of the Ming dynasty Chenghua emperor (1465-1487) but these cups were made later, possibly in the early 20th Century during the Republic period (1911-1949). For a pair of Yongzheng Imperial wine cups with very similar under glaze blue decoration but bearing additional over glaze polychrome Doucai enamels please see Lot 203, Sotheby's Hong Kong, April 25, 2004. Condition: excellent - no damages and no restoration. 5cm (2 inches) high; 5.8cm (2.3 inches) diameter.

A Ghinese porcelain snuff bottle, attractively painted in underglaze blue and red , with a Ming dynasty style scene depicting many boys at play. The cyclically dated iron red inscription can be translated as "Year of Ding Wei (1907 or possbly 1847), for my snuff taking 'elder brother's' appreciation; presented by your snuff taking 'younger brother' Ya Quan. Condition: there is a long, stable, light hairline crack running down one side; no further damages and no restoration.

A rare late Ming Dynasty thickly potted jar decorated in underglaze blue with a key-fret pattern around the neck; on the shoulder a Kraak style diaper pattern encloses four circular panels, each containing a fruiting peach branch; above the foot are stylized breaking waves; the large central area is painted on each side with nine boys, at leisure, in a garden setting. "Hundred Boys" jars with very similar decoration are to be found dating to the Jiajing reign (1522-1566) but this jar was made later, probably for export, circa 1610-1625 during the reign of either the Wanli or the Tianqi emperor.
Condition - there is fritting (production glaze loss) to the rim and there are chips to the foot rim; there are two cracks to the rim which are probably firing (production) cracks and there are various cracks and glaze imperfections to the body but there are no repairs and there has been no restoration.
19cm (7.5inches) high; 19cm (7.5inches) diameter. Weight - 1.5kg (3lb 5oz).
