AA carved soapstone figure depicting a reclining Scholar; holding a fan in his right hand. This item was possibly made as an object for the Scholar's table and was made in China in the Qing dynasty, probably during the second half of the 19th Century (circa 1850-1900). Condition: a 2.5cm area appear to have been chipped away (in front of the fan and below his right knee)- please view enlargements 5, 6 & 7; and there are small spots of red paint in places. 6.3cm (2.5 inches) high; 7.6cm (3 inches) long.

A rare and finely carved hardwood figure group depicting the reclining Buddai with three small boys together with its original wood stand. This item was made in China in the 18th century during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Condition: generally very good but the tip of the Buddai's left foot is missing and the boy on the far right has been broken and re-glued (with a 2mm section of his fore arm missing) and there is a small chip to the robe covering the Buddai's right leg; no further damages and no replacements or restoration. 9cm (3.5inches) high; 20cm (8inches) high. 硬木雕三子弥勒像配原木雕座。为18世纪清乾隆年间所做。
品相:总体很好。但是,弥勒左足顶部有缺失,右腿处的衣角处有缺;最右边的孩童处有修补粘连(前臂有一处2毫米的缺失)。无其他损伤或修复。

A finely cast bamboo shaped vase with applied bamboo leaf branch decoration. This item was made in China for the scholar's table in the 17th Century. An unusual and very well carved soapstone figure group (with natural black and red inclusions) depicting four deer and a monkey holding a lotus seed pod. This item was made in China circa 1850-1875, and was possibly intended as a brush rest / water pot and decorative object for the scholar's table. A very rare bronze Bitian (“brush-lick”) in double gourd shape made in China, for the scholar's table, in the Ming Dynasty during the 16th or early 17th Century. This item is from the collection of a British architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai. It came to the UK with him in 1931. Condition - excellent - there is visible surface wear, consistent with many years of use, but no damages or losses and no repairs. 10.5cm (2.2 inches) long; 2.5cm (1 inch) high. Weight 250gm (9 oz).

A rare large bronze paper weight in the form of a Qilin, made in China during the late Ming / early Qing "Transitional" period, circa 1620 - 1680. Condition - very good - the tip of one ear is missing - no further losses and no repairs. 13.5cm (5.3ins) long. Weight: 908gms (32oz).

A small twin-handled bronze censer, finely casted and with good patina. The base carries a rare two character seal script mark which reads "Cang Ju". It was probably made in the 17th Century, during the late Ming or early Qing dynasty. This item is from the collection of a British architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai. It came to the UK with him in 1931. Condition - excellent - no damages. 10cm (4 inches) across; 5.5cm (2.5 inches) high. Weight - 425gm (15oz).

A rare pale greenish jade, Ming dynasty, brush washer with finely carved hardwood stand. This item was made during late 16th / early 17th Century, probably during the reign of the Wanli emperor (1573-1619). Condition - very good - there a chip to a petal of the flower at centre of enlargement 7 - no further damages and no restoration. 10cm (3.9 inches) across.

一件稀有的浅青色明代玉笔洗,硬木底座亦雕工精美。作于16世纪末17世纪初,约为明万历年间。
品相:很好。一处花瓣尖端有磕(见图7),无其他损伤或修复。宽10厘米。

An unusual and very well carved soapstone figure group with natural black and red inclusions and iron oxide coloured veins. This item was made in China circa 1850, or earlier, and was possibly intended as a brush rest and decorative object for the scholar's table. Condition - very good - no damages or restoration. 12cm (4.7 inches) high; 16.5cm (6.5 inches) wide.

A 16th or early 17th Century Ming dynasty bronze sculpture of a boy riding an Ox or Water Buffalo. This item was possibly made during the reign of the Wanli emperor (1573-1619). Condition - very good - no damages and no repairs. Please note - this item is heavy for its size (550gms / 20oz) and requires a solid horizontal surface to balance upright. 10cm (4 inches) high; 11.5cm (4.5 inches) long.
