The base carries the six character reign mark of the Xuande emperor (1426-1435) but this item was made later, possibly during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722). This censer is from the collection of a British architect who was born in China and lived in Shanghai. It came to the UK with him in 1931. Condition - very good - there are minor surface bumps and abrasions (most noticeable on the base next to the reign mark - please view enlargements 4, 8 and 9); no further damages and no repairs. 9cm (3.5 inches) high; 16cm (6.3 inches) across. Weight 1.4kg (3.5lb).
