A hardwood carving depicting an Immortal or Buddhist Luohan possibly the legendary Damo (Bodhidharma) with his foot on a small tiger. This item was made in China during the 18th or early 19th Century, possibly during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Condition - the tiger's tail is missing and there are small chips to the back of his gown; there is age cracking to the front of the body and to the front of the base (please view enlargements) and the figure has been stained darker than its original colour with a brown wax. There have been no repairs or restoration. 20cm (7.9inches) high.
