| An exceptional Victorian era chased sterling tea caddy spoon from Frank Smith. The design is in the style of the latter Aesthetic Movement and the asymmetric handle is decorated with a hand chased barbed swirl. The same swirl is repeated, between flutings, around the rim of the bowl that is centered with a fancy script monogram - msf - in bright cut engraving. The style dates it to the very early years of the Frank Smith Co.'s existence and also indicates that it was made under the auspices of the great silversmith Arthur Stone, who joined Smith in 1887 as designer and foreman. Good sized for a stamp box, it measures a bit more than 4 inches in length by 1 1/2 inches in width and is beautifully wrought from heavy gauge sterling. It is marked on the reverse with the Frank Smith trademark stamp & Sterling. Lovely example, and in excellent condition. | ||
