1880-1890 Central British Columbia Vibrant paint (original) and crisp carving make this rattle an excellent example of a Shaman's rattle. 1930's-1940's These hoop masks were originally made for the "Messenger Feast", a ceremony to honor the inua (spirits) of the seasons hunt, i.e marine mammals, birds, etc. There are no known 19th century examples.
