Weighing a substantial 60 grams this sterling silver overlay letter open with a bezel set cabochon of turquoise has a wonderful feel when held in the hand. Expertly crafted to be both a work of art and a functional piece, there is a hand hammered indentation on the reverse for the placement of the thumb and the curve at the end of the handle allows it to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand. There is a slight angle between the handle and the blade for ease of use.
It measures 7 1/4" long; the turquoise measures 3/4" by 1/2". It is marked on the reverse with a maker's mark that I cannot distinguish and STERLING. This letter opener is in good vintage condition with normal signs of wear but no breaks or repairs. I have left it with a patina but it will polish to a beautiful shine. |
