¤ A SECESSIONIST THONET ARMCHAIR BY VAN DE VELDE
An unusual steam-bent beechwood open armchair with graduated rectangular open work back with rounded corners and vertical slatted splat, joining upwardly arching arm rests meeting a demi-lune form seat centering a subtly impressed circular area; the whole raised on four slender supports connected at the sides by two dramatic cross stretchers of sweeping form. A model attributed to Van de Velde or Joseph Hoffmann. Austria, circa 1905. Stamped Thonet mark underside. Dimensions: 41.2/3in.(106cm) high, 21.1/3in.(54cm) large, 22.3/4in.(58cm).
