A Beautiful cloisonne snuff bottle, Qing dynasty (19th century).
The entire bottle is fully enameled on a heavy brass body. Decorated in details with flying bird, flowers, and scholar rock in the turquoise grounded windows (Kai Guang).
Cloisonne is made by applying coloured enamel paste (made from powdered glass) within copper wire enclosures which form the design, onto a metal base. After the enamel is applied to the ground, the object is fired at a temperature high enough to fuse the enamel. The process of filling and firing is repeated enough times to achieve deep colours and an even surface. Finally the piece is polished and the exposed copper wires are gilded.
Height 2.75 inches (7 cm). Very good condition. Shows normal wear at this age.
