A Chinese Cloisonne on brass snuff bottle, Circa 1905. Twin body design, decorated with cranes playing under a pine tree near rocks. Flowering lotus scrolls on on each side. The exposed copper wires are gilded. Original stoppers.
Cloisonne is made by applying coloured enamel paste (made from powdered glass) within copper wire enclosures which form the design, onto a metal base. After the enamel is applied to the ground, the object is fired at a temperature high enough to fuse the enamel. The process of filling and firing is repeated enough times to achieve deep colours and an even surface. Finally the piece is polished and the exposed copper wires are gilded.
Height 2 1/4" (5.7 cm). Good condition, some rust on the bottom considering it's age.
