VERY RARE MAORI MODEL 'WHARE RUNANGA' OR 'MARAE'

Maori Culture, New Zealand. A model of a 'whare' or meeting house, the center of that tribal culture. Perhaps an "early Rotorua School" as described, and there may be some 'Tuara Kuri' (Diamond Notch) patterns and 'Haehae Lines' (we will defer to others on the above points); true dimensions are 14 cm.(5 1/2")in both length and width; the piece has been restored to a degree; the missing shell eye to the 'tiki' figure on the left has been replaced, and the missing figure to the right recreated, to match. There is a missing section to the rear of one side of that 'gable' roof - see images. All, acceptible, for the rarity of this piece. Representative of that culture; dscribed to be pre-1930's, and perhaps is.
