This white porcelain brush washer is finished in fantastic over glaze enamels. There are four round panels. Two depict a ferocious red five claw dragon and two a highly stylized phoenix. The bottom rim is decorated in a wave pattern and the top by a key design. It could well be earlier but I believe this dates to the Republic period. It measures 4 7/8 inches across the base and it’s about 3 ½ inches tall. It is in very good condition, no chips, cracks or other damage.

This rare shallow dish features a man sitting of a rug with a fan while playing a Koto (Japanese stringed instrument). I’m not sure but the figure and inscription may refer to Yatsuhashi Kengyô who is a famous Japanese Kyoto musician who died in 1685. Other elements include a flowering Lotus, pine trees and an inscription. It is measures 8 1/8 inches across, with no chips cracks or any other damage. It is signed but I’m not sure what the characters mean.

This wonderful pair of “mirror image” cloisonné vases date from around 1900. They are both signed with the Buddhist bell stamp. They are about 12 inches tall. As you can see in the one picture one has a 4 inch long crack on the back. On the same vase the bronze collar on the inside of the lip has slipped down a fraction of an inch. The other vase is in very good condition with no damage. Each vase depicts iris flowers and bitter melon fruit against a graduated pale blue wireless enamel. The s ...click for details

Sold, Thank You

This rare ginger jar was sold through Ming’s of Honolulu many years ago. It dates from between 1662 to 1722. With its stand it is just over 10 inches tall. The jar its self is about 7 inches tall. There are no cracks or chips but some of the enameling has come off in various places. I have tried to show this clearly in the photographs. The stand was broken and it has been securely glued back together. It’s difficult to get period porcelain with such excellent provenance. Even with the missing en ...click for details

This highly figuratively designed teakettle is signed and complete with its original cast bronze trivet. The detail is just amazing as you can clearly see in the photographs. It is in excellent condition with one small flaw. The very tip of the tail on the dragon fly finial is broken (see the last picture). I cannot read the signature but this was clearly made by a master craftsman who was very proud of his workmanship. It measures a total of 11 inches high. The pot and lid measure eight and ...click for details
