| Unless you are a expert Japanese dolls of this type are very hard to date. This doll is obviously pre 1900 and I would date to around 1870 but that is as close as I can come to a date. He is 10 and 1/2 inches high and 9 inches wide not counting his battle baton. The bed roll is uncommon as far as I can tell The details and extreme care with which he has been made show this to be of superior workmanship. The tip of the baton is damaged and needs repainting. The top of the sword looks a little rough. There is some fading and staining. The face as you can see in the picture is not perfect but it has exceptional character. There is a shadow of a beard and mustache which is hard to see in the pictures. Over all this is a great doll in good condition for its age. | ||
