Beautiful Japanese work of art, Katazome (stencil dye with natural blue dye) on thick, lightweight, coarsely woven cotton.. It is decorated with auspicious motives; crane and long-tailed turtle in the frame work of sho-chiku-bai (pine, bamboo, plum blossoms), another symbols of happiness. Bamboo canes and pines are hidden, actually all over here in the form of scrolls. Three rolls of 13 1/4" - 13.1/2" (width) x 123 1/4" (3 yards and 15 inches) long, thick cotton. Excellent condition with some color loss, very little holes or stains.

This type of fabrics were very popular during the Meiji to Taisho period. They were made into a set of bridal futon comforters. These fabrics stay in the roll length without being cut or folded in the center.
