An unusual ivory netsuke of farmer's attribute
Late 18th century
Height: 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm.)

Apparently formed of two tree roots, crossed in the center to form the himotoshi and carved at the ends with a sheaf of rice, bird scarer, rain cape and a hat, the ivory rather worn and bearing a good patina.

Provenance: Carlos Monzino collection, sold at Sotheby's London, 21 June 2011, lot 125.

Condition: Some old repairs
