This catalog examines the links between traditional Chinese painting and the styles and motifs chosen by painters who decorate inside-painted snuff bottles. It demonstrates that paintings on inside-painted bottles reflect a complex series of artistic lineages and genres of Chinese painting, some have been established since the Song dynasty. A short biography of painters of snuff bottles is also included.
