A OPAQUE YELLOW GLASS ZHADOU

Qing dynasty, Qianlong mark and period (1736-1795)

Supported on a fairly high splayed foot the waste jar has the classical construction specific to this type of vessel with a bulbous container and a wide flaring mouth. The high foot adds an unusual elegance to this vessel.

For a similar piece although smaller in the collection of the Peabody Museum of Salem, Massachusetts see Claudia Brown and Donald Rabiner 'Clear as Crystal, Red as Flame: Later Chinese Glass' (China Institute of America, 1990), p. 73, cat. no. 37.
