| A rare Chinese marbled cosmetics box with stem. The “jiaotai” or ‘blending clays’ technique to effect a variety of marbleized or feathered patterns on Chinese ceramics were demonstrated in this piece. Later examples from the northern Song-Jin period are among the rarest of that large class of ceramics classified as Cizhou wares. Each of Tang marbled pieces has been regularly displayed in British museum and The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. For reference they can been seen in Enlargement 5 and 6. | ||
