| Early 20 century 3 inch tall pectoral cross pendant made of five 5 centavos coins from Ecuador. 2 front facing coins are dated:1893,1893, back facing coins: 1924, 1924, & 1 is obliterated by lumps of solder. See photos. A significant piece of early Ecuadorean and South American religious jewelry for the collector. All original pendants and 3 real coral drops. However, there is a good chance that the other pendants and metal parts that are not coins, are silver plate. I suspect this piece started out as a pendant on a long chain, the chain was sold separately, and the pin back was put on at a much later date to increase the wearability of the piece. The back is pretty crude, with sloppy solder marks, and handmade loops and rings, but that is the way it was made, and shows how rustic conditions were in those days. Despite this, it is still in very good condition. Pieces of this delicacy and many parts are pretty rare outside of South America these days. | ||
