From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a large and fine vintage Pakistani Bokhara rug using extra fine wool and silk in classic Tekke Gul design, handwoven on a vertical loom with cotton base, using a combination of natural mineral pigments and synthetic dyes in brown, black, taupe, cream, and pale green. Whilst Bokhara rugs are often perceived as utilitarian in nature and not seen as art objects by their makers, this particular rug is of such good quality that the maker decided to sign it. The signature is actually woven into the rug and appears in the lower right hand corner as seen in the third photo. We believe the writing is in Urdu but are unable to translate it.

Cheap machine-made copies of Bokhara rugs (often of Chinese or Southeast Asian manufacture) can be found in many retail outlets and all over the internet. The overall look is the same but the quality is very different. This piece is guaranteed to have been indigenously made in Pakistan and by hand. We have another similar (but smaller) piece available in a red palette, please see item number 995260.

Size and Condition: 94 inches long, (just shy of 8 feet), 60 1/2 inches wide (5 feet). Excellent condition, no damages issues. The slight variations in color perceived in some photos is just a function of how the light hits the pile with its combination of wool and silk.
