From our European Collection, a fine pair of Louis XVI style giltwood fauteuils a la reine (Queen's Armchairs), last quarter 19th century circa 1875-1895, constructed with a banded upholstered back surmounted by a carved and gilded laurel wreath above a guilloche (braided interlaced ribbon) banding, flanked on both sides by turret motif finials continuing to outset arms on reeded baluster supports, all above a newly upholstered in red fabric shaped seat, raised on tapering legs.

Size and Condition: Height 34 inches; width 25 inches; depth 20 inches. There is wear and abrasion to the gilding throughout, commensurate with age and use, as seen on the close-up photos. The gilding appears to be all original and the chairs do not appear to have ever been re-gilded in their lifetime. There is some expected shrinkage and light seam splits to random areas of the wood, but the chairs are fully structurally sound and may be put to actual use for seating, or put out for decoration. We have had these re-upholstered in a rich red fabric.
