Zirah Bouk Eared Dagger with Gold Koftgari Decoration
Please inquire

Of classic form, but with a very elegant blade shape, the grip spine and bolsters finely inlaid with a gold koftgari scrolling floral meander. The broad, recurved blade of the highest quality silver-gray wootz damascus steel likewise inlaid with gold at the forte and forged with a robust heavy armor-piercing tip. Horn gripscales with eared pommel riveted to tang. It lacks a scabbard, not uncommon as . . . frequently the scabbard was thrown away when going into a fight, the owner considering that if he won he would have ample time to hunt it up, and if he lost he would not care what became of it. Stone, A Glossary, at 677 (1961). A piece of quality, this dagger dates from the late 18th to mid-19th Century. Overall length 29.3 cm; blade 19 cm.
