Multi-colored vase by Miyashita Zenji
Miyashita Zenji (1939-2012) studied under his father, Miyashita Zenju (1901-1968). One of the most famous potters in Kyoto, widely exhibited, won numerous awards. Since the 1980s he produced stoneware with applied colored clay, of which this is a simple example. Triangular vase (10 ¼” high, 2 3/4” wide at base) green, yellow, peach, dark blue and green inlayed clay on dark grey body. Upper part is glazed, while foot is not. Signed on the bottom, comes with original signed box and sealed cloth. This piece was exhibited in “Born in Fire; Modern Japanese Ceramics”, at Miami Dade Art Gallery System, Miami (May 31-June 28, 2012).
