Miyashita Zenju Yunomi Tea Cups Kyoto Japan
Miyashita Zenju (1901-1968) was father of Miyashita Zenji (1930-2012). Zenju was a famous Kyoto based potter, who had studied in Japan, China and Korea. Zenju was a central figure at the highly regarded juried Nitten annual exhibitions. Set of yunomi (tea cups) with wooden lids. In accordance with Confucian tradition, one is larger than the other. Larger is 3 (9 cm) tall, 3 1/16 (7.9 cm) in diameter, while the smaller is 3 1/8 (8 cm) tall, 2 7/8 (7.3 cm) in diameter. This piece dates from the late 1950s, it is enclosed in original signed box (box has woodworm damage). Cups and lids are in perfect condition.
