Hosai Matsubayashi Asahi Futaoki Lid Rest Kyoto Japan
Asahi futaoki (lid rest) by Hosai Matsubayashi XIV (1921-2004), the late head and protector of the Asahi ceramics (clay is collected from the Uji region of Kyoto). Asahi has a long history dating back to Momoyama Period, and is primarily associated with production of tea ceremony utensils. Current head is his son, Yoshikane, who became Hosai Matsubayashi XV in 1995. At that time, Hosai XIV took artist name Yukoan. This piece is from the 1980s. Original signed box, sealed cloth, artist biography (in Japanese) included. Height 2 1/8 (5.4 cm), diameter 2 (5.7 cm). In perfect condition.
