A very attractive tsutsu chawan (cylindrical tea bowl) by Koie Ryoji, one of the best known contemporary Japanese potters. The vessel shows great balance in shape and contrast of tones, with primitive-like markings, in pure Koie fashion.

Kakewake describes the way the glaze does not, voluntarily, covers the whole body of the bowl.

Koie Ryoji, born in 1938 in Tokoname, is a true artist who finds inspiration in anything, and his creations are expressions of his will to constantly redefine his work and surprise the viewers. Koie Ryoji’s reputation extends beyond Japan. He has exposed his works in many renowned national and international venues.
