Golden Raku Chawan by Suzuki Goro
1,200,000 yen

If there ever was a chalice made for the tea ceremony, this magnificent chawan is it. This unique piece embodies the spiritual nature of the tea ceremony and brings it to a religious level. The bowl would feel at home on the soft tatami mat of a quieted tea ceremony room as well as on an altar in the obscurity of a sacred temple. Now imagine drinking from this divine vessel; that must be quite a transcending experience. This bowl is part of a series of Raku bowls which Suzuki Goro made in 2006. Having reached a superior level of technical mastery, he is slowly moving away from the potter’s wheel and let his hands alone mold the clay. Suzuki Goro is a worldwide known potter and artist. In 2002, he received the very prestigious Japan Ceramic Society Prize. The bowl is signed, in perfect condition and will be shipped in 2 wooden boxes (one inside the other), as it is the tradition with exceptional chawan. Dimensions: 14 cm x 10.5 cm (5.6 in x 4.2 in), Weight 525 g (18.4 oz)
