Oni-hagi Guinomi by Yamato Nobuaki

This is yet another splendid oni-hagi guinomi (sake cup) made by Yamato Nobuaki, born in 1956. This cup is also a perfect example of the sensuous charm of that kind of pottery, popularized by Miwa Jusetsu (the eleventh Miwa Kyusetsu). And like all bodies of character, the foot is an essential component that reveals much about that character. For this particular piece, it seems the silky body stands on a pedestal where the awesome play of clay and glaze gives it a strong sense of balance. The name Yamato has been associated with Hagi pottery since the end of the 19th century. Yamato Nobuaki works at a kiln named Yamato Haru-nobushoroku gama, established in 1890 in the city of Yamaguchi, near Hagi. He is a member of the prestigious Japanese Traditional Art Crafts Association. The guinomi is signed and in perfect condition. It will be shipped in a signed box. Dimensions: 7 cm x 5.5 cm (2.8 in x 2.2 in), Weight 110 g (3.85 oz) More pictures available on demand. Kindly let me know if you have any inquiry.
