| This majestic piece is a mizusahi, a container used during the tea ceremony as a fresh water jar. The mizusashi is an important utensil to that noble art, which is at the origin of Shino pottery, and it is only natural that Suzuki Goro would have revisited the genre. With this particular piece, the potter has chosen to play with the fluidity of the forms and the colors, as to pay homage to the precious liquid which seems to flow endlessly out of the jar, embracing its protective vessel. The mizusashi is part of the collection of 159 Shino pieces, made over the last 5 years, which were exposed in Tokyo in December 2007, to mark Suzuki Goro’s 50 years as a potter. Each piece had its own character and showed the multifaceted richness of the Shino pottery tradition and the prolificacy of their maker. Suzuki Goro is a potter who goes beyond that usual appellation. He has developed a unique way of expressing himself through ceramics, basing his work on traditional styles from the Mino tradition: Shino, Oribe, Ki-Seto (yellow Seto), Setoguro (black Seto) and the Karatsu tradition. His works, which have a strong sense of individualism, include tea bowls with colorful painted cars and life size chairs, but he is also a master of more conventional pieces. In 2002, Suzuki Goro received the very prestigious Japan Ceramic Society Prize. The mizusashi is signed, in perfect condition and will be shipped in a signed box (please allow 3-4 weeks before shipping). Dimensions: 23 cm x 23 cm (9.2 in x 9.2 in) The listed price includes worldwide insured shipping. A catalog of the exposition, featuring the 159 pieces exposed, is available for sale.
