|A pair of Manchu lady's platform shoes, the pink silk upper being embroidered with flowers in satin stitch and a leather toe binding. This type of shoe had a hemp covered wooden platform which was shaped like a flower pot with the result that its imprint looked like that of a horse’s hoof hence the shoe is also called a “pot-bottom shoe” or “horse-hoofed shoe". Approx 9 x 5 in with a 2.5in platform. Condition: some stains on the platform and the bottom edges of the silk upper. c 1890|
