A very fine kakemono with a minimalistic and delicate rendering of Mt. Fuji. Ink on silk. Exquisitely mounting in a metallic blue silk. Ivory scroll knobs. Signed: Gyokusho.* Dated: 1904. A pair of erotic tanzaku (oblong pictures mounted on thin cardboard for placing on the beams) in an original and very exquisite box made of mottled hardwood. The paintings are in colors and ink and depict a pair of lovers and a half-naked woman displaying her sex respectively. Both have corresponding poems on the back. Meiji, 19th cent. H 36 cm, W 6 cm. Condition: Quite good with only minor foxing. The cardboard on one with a light crack (not visible from the front).

An interesting hanging scroll (kakemono) painted in monochrome ink on paper depicting a landscape with a herdsman and water buffalos in the fields. The style and topic is closely reminiscent of work by members of the Kano school. Unsigned, but sealed. Edo, 17th cent. Probably remounted during the 18th cent. Knobs in original tooth. Picture-frame: H 102 cm, W 38.5 cm. Condition: Very good given the age (minor wear and some creases).

A pair of kakemonos depicting immortals in landskabes. Painted in ink and light colors on silk. Signed: Gabo = Suzuki Takeshi (1816-1870), a noted student of the famous Tani Buncho (1763-1840). Roberts, p. 28a. Fitted kiri-box. Japan, late Edo, second half of 19th century, probably around 1860. Condition: Fine (some wear and stains on the back of the scrolls). Dimentions (only picture frame): H. 104 cm W. 42 cm Total size with mounting H. 175 cm; W. 50 cm .
