A charming and attractive figure group of dark-patinated bronze depicting the two Zen Buddhist recluses Kanzan and Jittoku (Chinese: Hanshan and Shide). The latter is holding a broom, while the former holds a scroll in accordance with the established tradition of depicting this theme. Mingei-style. Japan, Edo, ca. 1800. H 18, 5cm.
