Fine zozu with Shaka (Indra), made by Chusei
A small altar-box for traveling (zozu) in red lacquer with an exquisitely, carved figure of Shaka (Indra), the lord of the gods. The image is made of fragrant sandalwood, decorated with. staffing in gold. Signed: Chusei. Meiji, 19th cent. H 16 cm (box), H 10 cm (image). Condition: Fine with a few minor losses; small dents to top of the box due to age & handling.
