A rare and powerful image carved in zitan wood of the naked, Lion-headed Dakini, a major Nyingmapa yidam, in a jumping/dancing pose. She holds chopper and skull cup in her hands and has the skin of a corpse slung over her shoulders. Remains of colors and gold. Large zitan images are often made of several parts due to scarcity of this type of wood. In this case the image is made of two pieces of zitan. H 19.5 cm. Tibet, 18th cent. Condition: very good, but with right side of the mandorla recarved and original base lost.
