A charming decorative plaque of black lacquer with images in Shibayama inlay-style. The frame in multi-layered, carved lacquer (black on red) decorated with an interesting geometric pattern. The scene shows three animals, a monkey, a hare and a fox playing the children's game 'blind man's buff.' Signed with a seal: Shudō (Cinnabar Hall). Japan, Meiji period, c. 1880-1890. H 44.5 cm, W 50 cm. Condition: Quite good all-over, but w. some wear and a few very minor losses to inlays (should be fairly easy to replace).
