A small but very attractive lama portrait in gilt bronze depicting the Sakya hierarch Ngochen Kunga Zangpo (1382–1456).* He sits on a rectangular throne and wears the characteristic flat, cone-shaped pandita hat used in the Sakyapa School. From his hands which are held in the gesture of teaching emanates two lotus flowers at the image’s shoulders with sword and holy scripture respectively. Finely, engraved details to hems of robe. Sealed. Tibet, 17th cent. H 10.8 cm. Condition: Minor rubbing to gold otherwise perfect. * Ref. Portraits of the Masters, Chicago & London: Serindia, 2003, pl. 70, p. 258.
