A well-sculpted bronze image of the meditating Guanyin Bodhisattva (Baiyi Guanyin) easily recognizable by the small figure of Amitabha in the crown. Very nice facial expression. The image is patinated dark, brown as is common for this type of icons. Ming, Wanli, ca. 1600. H 26.5 cm. Condition: Fine all-over. Several casting failures, due to an insufficient amount of bronze used during casting. Such failures are common to Ming bronzes of this type and are often hidden under a coating of cold lacquer, sometimes even filled with lead or tin.
