A long hanging scroll painting of the Yao minority from South China. It represent a hybrid of both Buddhist and Daoist pantheon. The central figure is the Dragon Controlling Luohan holding the magic pearl in his raised hand. He is surrounded by a host of mixed Daoist and Buddhist gods including the Four Heavenly Kings, the Thunder God, Erlang, Niangniang, the Gods of the Great Dipper, etc. At the bottom three demons under the control of the Daoist priest holding sword and cup for magic water. Ink and colors on paper. Qing, first 19th century. H 158 cm, W 42 cm (picture frame). Condition: Very good and sharp colors. Recently re-mounted. Slightly cropped. Various minor damages to paper.
