Elegant ikebana basket by TANABE CHIKUHONSAI I

A small and very elegant ikebana basket executed in a complex and highly sophisticated style of weaving by the important bamboo artist Tanabe Chikuhosai I.* On the back side a woven ring for hanging the piece. Fully signed. Original and signed kiri-box. Dating from the Taisho period, ca. 1920. H. 32 cm W 13.5 cm. Condition: Perfect. * Tanabe Chikuhosai I (1868–1945). A native of Osaka and belonging to the first generation of officially recognized bamboo artists in Japan. One piece of his is in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts
