SANDAL WOOD Fifth Dalai Lama, Nagwamg Losang Gyatso

A small votive figure of the Fifth Dalai Lama, Nagwamg Losang Gyatso (1617–1682) carved of purple sandal wood (zitan). He holds a bowl in one hand and the other raised in the gesture of teaching. Traces of colour. Hollowed, one piece-carving. Tibet, 17–18th cent. H 11.5 cm. Condition: Generally good but w. some wear and chipping due to age. The flower branch that was attached on the right arm is missing.
