A nice, large HUANGHUALI “BITONG” brush pot.

A large HUANGHUALI “BITONG” brush pot, carved from a single piece of wood. The overall silhouette slightly waisted; the sides have been carved to form large lobes on which different mythical animals (qilong) and flower’s branches are shown in high relief; the lower edge has been carved to form a thin beaded rim interrupted by three small feet. Very nice patina and good grain pattern in the wood. Qing Dynasty, probably 18th cent or earlier. D. 16,5 cm; H. 17,5 cm. Condition: Good all-over, but with fillings in cracks and minor replacement of wood in the bottom. Minor chips to top rim. The centre fitted piece is not the original one.
