The artist, Charles Emile Jacques was born in France in 1813 and died in 1894, he was noted for his paintings of animals, especially farm animals.
Jacques was part of the Barbizon school, a movement of painters named after the village of Barbizon near Fontaine Bleau forest, France. The back of the canvas has the stencil mark "P.Briautt 2 Rue du Louvre, Paris" the name of the canvas supplier. (Circa 1880) Dimensions:Frame Height 32.7x 40 inches (83cm x 99cm)

The ovoid tea jar has a soft mellow patina and beautifully worked hammered copper details. This tea caddy in Ginger jar form is a rare find as early pewter was frequently resmelted to make bullets and other lead implements as needed.

The Guanyin Goddess is mounted on a reticulated brass base, with brass fittings. There is no damage to the porcelain statue as the post is mounted behind the porcelain figuriene.
