‘The SPRING’, Plum-Green Celadon Vase by Chen Ai-Ming
‘The SPRING’ is series artworks that fully utilized a unique ceramics carving skill called ‘slanting-knife’ together with pale plum-green glazing. The slanting knives are actually bamboo or ironic blade with various forms. During potting the ceramist activates auto equipment to spin the clay then uses the blade to carve hundreds of thousands incised textures. When you look at the subtle fluidity of each delicate that implemented on the vase, it is really one of the treasures from Chinese Longquan celadon artworks.
Why the series called ‘The SPRING’? According to Chen Ai-Ming there are more than twenty micro skills when using the ‘slanting-knife’ techniques. In order to present the water leaks out of the spring, Chen mixed the micro carvings and created his art boundary on the vase body. He also diluted the plum-green glaze to pale tone and made it to look like the water on creek. That is the reason and meaning for ‘The SPRING’ series artwork.
