A large buckwheat noodle cup decorated with an all-over “tako karakusa” pattern. Such patterns, although particularly associated with Japanese porcelain, have their origin in Chizhou and Jizhou wares of the Chinese Yuan era. Within the well of the cup is a Shochikubai-mon, Three friends of Winter motif. The cup measures 8 cm in diameter and stands 7 cm high, and is in good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration. The base with a stylised band of lotus leaves, and the interior with an auspicious gobenka, an auspicious flower of five petals to the interior and diaper band to the rim. The soba choku dates to between 1740 and 1760. It measures 9.2cm in diameter and stands 7.2cm high...

A very unusual celadon glazed moulded trilobed mukuzuke serving bowl enamelled with Kirin. The body of the bowl moulded with a “rusticated” ground with auspicious clouds and three plain oval tabs on the outside sponged with iron red and on the inside painted with representations of Kirin. The opaque enamel palette is consistent with a date between the years 1780 and 1830. The most likely kiln is the Higuchi kiln in the Nangawara valley...
