An Arita moulded dish of scalloped form with raised rim probably produced at the Nangawara group of kilns decorated in underglaze blue and gilt outlined enamels, some-nishikide style dating to the late mid Edo era circa 1750-80. The design is a traditional one, the Three Friends of Winter, as shown by the presence of Pine, waka-matsu, young pine, a gnarled Prunus tree, ume, and Bamboo, take, in the landscape but also incorporates a visual pun and a homophone on the Japanese words “yuke no iwa” ...click for details

A good early 18th century, circa 1700-20, teapot of globular compressed form decorated in a typical Imari three colour palette decorated with a ground of Cherry Tree blossom inset with typical ogee form pentalobe medallions containing an hosoge mon, flower of precious appearance. A very unusual Chinese version of an Arita copy of a Dutch Delft Apothecary’s Jar, or albarello. The jar is decorated with four panels of floral motifs in famille rose enamels , alternating with Lotus Flowers supporting a Vase containing Peonies, and Prunus Blossom with a large Camelia bloom. The borders of the panels painted with an elegant Peach leaf arabesque in underglaze cobalt blue. A fine pair of elegant Arita ewers painted in the Imari pallette. Each painted with a monogram, A, standing for Azijn, Vinegar, and the other with O, for Oil. The bodies with raised moulded relief decoration of the floral elements in the design. The form appears to be somewhat unusual. Dating circa 1700-1720. The ewers measure respectively 15.5cm and 16cm high and approximately 11cm in diameter. A rare example of a small saucer from the famous collection of Augustus the Strong of Saxony with wheel engraved Inventory number indicating that it was in the King’s collection before 1721.
