Ko Imari Sennin Zu Dish c.1750-80
A fine Ko Imari scalloped dish decorated in somenishikide style with Sennin-zu, a picture of Daoist Immortals . The scene would appear to come from the Chinese Ming Romance “The Journey to the West” when Cao Guojiu, identified by his elaborate Court dress, here levitating over a low table, was invited to join the Immortals by Zhongli Quan, identified by his fan. Ca Guojiu was the patron of actors and actresses and Zhongli Quan was the patron of the military. The reverse decorated with precious objects and a Fuku seal within the footring. The dish measures 22 cm in diameter and stands approximately 3.4cm and is in good condition without any cracks chips or restoration. It dates to the late mid Edo period circa 1750-80.
