A fine Arita awabi-gata o-zara abalone shaped dish made primarily for the Japanese market decorated with a textile style pattern featuring blocks of hanabishi brocade juxtaposed with the auspicious Shochilubai, three friend of winter. Most unusually rather than the more typical green enamel brocade band this example has an Aka-e kinrande nindou-mon brocade band. To the reverse of the dish various water weeds, clams and molluscs. The dish measures 21.5cm or 8.5 inches in length and is in good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration, except for an area of loss to the rim sustained prior to the gilding - see last image.
