A fine mid 18th century Arita scalloped form dish decorated with a pattern celebrating the arrival of Spring containing the traditional motifs, ume ni uguisu, Japanese Nightingales and a flowering Japanese Apricot (Plum tree), and Botan, Peonies, traditional harbingers of Spring combined in an imaginary landscape with a fingers of brocade intended to suggest spring mists, kasumi. The dish would date to the period 1740-60, and would appear to be the precedent for the so-called “Thumb and Finger” Japan patterns that date from the late Eighteenth century. The dish is comparatively large having a 10 inch, approximately 25.5cm, diameter, and is in very good condition, no cracks, chips or restoration. Shipping at Cost.
