Fine Imari Dragon and Hoo Bird Dish 18C
An unusual Arita export dish dating to the first quarter of the Eighteenth century. The rim of the dish painted with a Dragon pursuing a flaming pearl and Hoho bird chasing a lightning bolt amongst delicately painted clouds. The cavetto decorated with various symmetric motifs incorporating auspicious peonies and hanabishi. The centre painted with another rather curious symmetric construction of stylised leaves and flowers, incorporating Chrysanthemum, Kiku, and Holyhocks, Aoi. The dish measures 24.6cm, or 9.69 inches in diameter, and is 3cm high or 1.18 inches. The dish is in good condition with no cracks, chips or restoration some wear commensurate with the dishes age.
