The plate is decorated with a flowering Chinese cabbage, qingcai, a homophone for money or wealth, cai, combined with a pair of Roosters, ji, a homophone for happiness, one of which is grasping within its beak, a cricket, xishua, again a homophone associated with xi, happiness. So the design can be seen both as a summer scene, and as an auspicious wish for wealth and happiness.
The plate is in good condition just having three frits and one small chip to the rim, no hairlines or restoration, some minor wear to the enamels. It measures 23.1cm or 9.1 inches in diameter and stands at the rim 2.5cm or 0.98 inches high.
